Wrigley Field
This north side landmark has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916. Through 1988 all the games were played during the day, as there was no lights in the ballpark. The Cubs also own another rare distinction of being the only existing charter member of the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs to continue uninterrupted in their city of origin.
The ballpark carries the name of the family that owned the Cubs the longest of anyone (over 60 years). The new owners are the Tribune Company. The playing field is natural grass with ivy covered walls around the entire outfield. It's not the largest park by any means. However, it's ivy-covered confines and neighborhood location give Wrigley Field a certain charm not available to most of the other concrete and steel monsters that belong to the National League.
The new sign here over the Clark Street entrance was a result of the new ownership. Modern electronics now replace the old painted message board. You're viewing the sign from across the street in front of just another neighborhood saloon. Let's have one for Harry.
