The colorful setting for this painting is along the Lakeshore at Irving Park Road. The exit off of the Drive is actually before Irving Park, placing it roughly along the same sight line as Waveland Avenue. That's how the golf course got its name.
Actually, it is now called the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course after one of Chicago's prominent citizens. As a classic understatement I'll merely state that Syd Marovitz did much for the Park District and the City of Chicago.
The Chicago Park District manages six golf courses within the City limits. All but one is a nine-hole course. This is one of them. Waveland stretches easily along the lake from Waveland Avenue up to Montrose and has a par of 36.
I asked Kim at the course office about reservations and she recommended making them on weekends, but during the week it was fairly easy to walk up and get on the course. The standard fee is around $10 to play nine holes.
There is a driving range close by at Diversey and it includes a small miniature golf course. The latter description might seem redundant to some, but I would probably encounter the same observations regarding the word short.
